Are you a visionary with a passion for community, events, and downtown revitalization? The City of Thomaston is searching for a dynamic Events and Main Street Coordinator to lead the charge in making our historic downtown the vibrant heart of the community! This role also serves as the voice of the City departments on social media, connecting with residents and promoting our events and initiatives.
In this exciting position, you will design, develop, and execute events that engage the community, support local businesses, and attract visitors, all while spearheading our Thomaston Main Street Program. What You’ll Do:
- From concept to execution, plan and oversee City-sponsored events that align with our goals for economic growth and community engagement.
- Develop new events and enhance existing ones to captivate residents and draw in visitors.
- Serve as the go-to person for event planning, coordinating vendors, staffing, and on-site management.
- Build lasting relationships with local businesses, community groups, and volunteers to drive participation and sponsorship.
- Utilize digital tools like Canva to design promotional materials (flyers, posters, social media graphics) and execute marketing strategies using social media, email campaigns, and more.
- Collaborate with City departments and vendors to manage resources, permits, and ensure compliance with policies.
- Track event success by measuring attendance, managing budgets, and reporting economic impact.
- Assist with budgeting, securing sponsorships, and grant writing to support event growth and downtown initiatives.
- Facilitate programming at the Downtown Thomaston Farmer’s Market to engage the community and promote local commerce.
What You Bring:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in event planning, coordination, and marketing, preferably within a community-focused or municipal setting.
- Skills:
- Graphic Design: Proficiency in tools like Canva.
- Project Management: Ability to juggle multiple events and deadlines.
- Relationship-Building: Excellent communication skills for engaging local businesses, volunteers, and partners.
- Digital Marketing: Experience in social media management and promotional campaigns.
- Knowledge of Main Street Revitalization is a plus!
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in government or nonprofit event planning.
- Proficiency with tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, or similar platforms.
- Event certifications (e.g., Certified Special Events Professional, Certified Meeting Professional).
- Grant Writing & Sponsorship expertise.
Main Street 101 Certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with event setup and breakdown.
- Comfortable working in diverse environments, including outdoor event settings.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience.
